Detailed guide: Textile labelling after Brexit

Stay up to date

This page tells you what to do if there’s a no-deal Brexit. It will be updated if anything changes, including if a deal is agreed.

Sign up for email alerts to get the latest information.

The changes will affect your business if you are:

  • a manufacturer intending to place textile products on the UK market
  • a retailer intending to sell textile products in the UK

Labelling requirements

The rules for what you must show on labels will stay the same after the UK leaves the EU.

Responsibility for labelling

Manufacturers and retailers are responsible for complying with the labelling requirements.

If you know that you will be placing textile products on the UK market after Brexit, you should check the presence and accuracy of the labels.

Applying for a new textile name or manufacturing tolerance

If you want to introduce a new textile name or manufacturing tolerance after we leave the EU, you will need to send your application to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

We will be publishing guidance on how to apply and the process by which the applications will be assessed.
